Cheap Cheap Gaanay
This piece, accompanying an article titled "Cheap Cheap Gaanay," delves into the author's childhood memories of music and their mother's influence on their musical tastes. It reflects on the significance of "cheap gaanay" (popular, often criticized songs) in their upbringing and society, highlighting the societal stigma attached to enjoying such music. The author challenges the notion that cheap songs contribute to societal corruption, arguing that they hold cultural and personal significance beyond their perceived shortcomings.
Ultimately, the piece celebrates the freedom of enjoyment and challenges societal expectations and judgments associated with "cheapness," advocating for the importance of pleasure and inclusivity in music appreciation.

Behenchara: The first ever Pakistani feminist e-magazine that follows themes of intersectional feminism and aims to provide a safe space for expression
AURAT
The magazine reached out to me to create a cover piece for their feminism issue, accompanying an article titled 'Aurat' (Woman). With complete artistic freedom, I drew inspiration from Botticelli's Three Graces but tailored it to the culture in Pakistan. Each figure symbolizes prominent issues faced by women in the country: sexualization and degradation linked to Western ideals, victim-blaming in cases of sexual harassment, colorism, and the dangers faced by transgender women in a society intolerant of the trans community.
The Urdu word 'Behenchara', meaning 'sisterhood', is prominently featured, symbolizing the purity, beauty, and strength of female relationships. Surrounding elements such as flowers, flames, and the moon represent femininity, hope, and peace respectively, culminating in an ideal of beauty, grace, and feminine empowerment.
